February 1st - February 7th:
- Mon - 7.03 mi "Park" loop from apt before work.
Great weather, sunny and clear skies - slight chill and wind but the sun
more than made up for it. New loop as I explored more of some nearby
neighborhoods, felt good overall just cruising to the ipod.
46:18 @ 6:36
avg - 7:13, 6:35, 6:32, 6:30, 6:22, 6:32, 6:25, 0:09(6:14pace)
- Tue - 5.2 mi @ SC social - good run w/ Jeff. Didn't
get in an earlier run today as much as I wanted to, probably for the best as
I hope to drop back the miles this week before increasing some more.
Everything felt good tonight and the weather was nice - overheated actually
at one point!
32:00 @ 6:09
avg - 6:27, 6:27, 6:06, 6:02, 6:03, 0:55
- Wed - 0 mi
- Thu - 7.5 mi @ CH social - normal 5mi run then headed
back out to check on others. Food and drink afterwards - good run,
started to snow right as we began which eventually turned more to sleet/hail
by the end.
- Fri - 6.13 mi Ballwin Athletic Fields loop from parents
mid morning. 10-20-10 run, 10min
easy running to warm-up and then just run 20min a bit faster, so basically
tempo or close to it at least, and finish with 10min easy running again.
Rainy and some sleet as the ground began to get slick in patches, so didn't
try to go all out and risk injury but at least got a good workout overall
with the weather conditions!
- 10:01 = 7:01, 3:00 @ 1.45
miles (6:54 avg)
- 20:00 = 6:07, 6:02, 5:58, 1:53
@ 3.31 miles (6:02 avg)
- 9:58 = 1:46, 7:16, 0:56 @ 1.37
miles (7:16 avg) ----- took the first split once I hit 5 miles total
overall on the garmin, so it was .25mi worth
- Sat - 5 mi @ FE social run w/ Bryce
- Sun - 0 mi
- Weekly Total = 30.86 miles
February 8th - February 14th:
- Mon - 8.15 mi Webster loop before work in the snow.
Relaxing run, felt much better by the time I hit halfway and got onto
Lockwood, then things began to pick up. Wasn't too bad icy wise,
couple patches but nothing terrible at least. Jay Orr drove by before
mile 7 in the run of which I probably looked confused as hell when I glanced
over...in the zone I was. Ha
54:31 @ 6:41 avg - 7:12, 6:51, 6:54,
6:45, 6:40, 6:30, 6:17, 6:23, 0:59
- Tue - 5.37 mi @ Queeny in 4-6" of
snow! Awesome run, though a bit windy at times, footing was decent in
most places as I was surprised to actually maintain a decent pace after I
warmed up. Ran into Amy when I got there as she just finished her run
and warned me of the trail conditions. Figured I would use this as a
way to start getting back some trail runs before the race later this
month...been on the roads too much and not enough trails. Plus it was
nice to run in DAYLIGHT with the sun out and blue skies!
39:05 @ 7:16 avg - 8:09, 7:48, 7:08,
6:36, 6:55, 2:29
- Wed - 0 mi
- Thu - 7.5 mi @ CH social run, normal 5mi loop w/ David
then back out to check on others. Weather was much nicer this time
compared to last week!
- Fri - 7.73 mi @ Castlewood before work.
Ran on most parts of the course later this month to get used to rougher
footing, it was a fun run - about half was still covered in at least 4" of
snow while the other half was clear but rough footing due to all the bikers
leaving tire tread marks in the now frozen mud, it is pretty tore up.
Took it really easy out on the trails to ensure good footing.
63:37 @ 8:13 avg - 9:36, 7:33, 8:44,
8:04, 8:07, 8:12, 7:59, 5:22
- Sat - 4 mi @ Castlewood before
work. Ran my normal 5 mile loop planning on doing just that, however
only .25 into my run my stupidity found the gaping hole beneath the snow and
I sprained my ankle real good as that took awhile to run off. If I
applied just the right amount of pressure or twist it let me know quickly
that it hurt, so I decided to take the short way back which cuts off a mile
and make it a 4 miler instead. These parts of the trails were a lot
rougher than what I had run on the day before...at least the race doesn't go
back on these portions! I did get to break in my new ProGrid Razors
though and they are freakin' SWEET! :) My garmin died on me
during this run which is probably for the best...although I do have an issue
with that whole battery life as less than 15 minutes seems rather quick for
battery life of 56% to drain...oh well.
- Sun - 4.09 mi easy run
afternoon. Good run, going for an easy 30min in the subdivisions near
parents home avoiding major roads since it was pretty slick out with the
rain/snow. The pathway ran on to cut through was still covered in at
least 3-4" of snow but was very well packed down for the most part so decent
footing at least.
31:42 @ 7:45 avg - 8:23, 7:21, 7:14,
8:04, 0:40
- Weekly Total = 36.84 miles
February 15th - February 21st:
- Mon - 4.85 mi @ Queeny Park before work.
Another fun run in the snow! More fell over night so again the trails
were still covered a good 4-6". The paved portions were clear but I
stayed off those and kept entirely to the trail portions as I made
variations to the loops - ran out of time so had to keep it short in order
to get to work on time and grab food since I hadn't eaten much prior to the
run! Ran in the Razor's on this run and they worked stellar.
36:40 @ 7:33 avg - 7:56, 7:36, 7:50,
7:10, 6:08
- Tue - 15.7 mi | 10.7mi long run from apt afternoon. Ran thru Webster
Groves and then took Big Bend to Grant's Trail and cut over to Watson, then
headed back home from there - felt nice to be on solid footing for a change!
Great run as I just cruised to the ipod and the hamstring/ankle both felt
very good, almost back to normal. Yay! :)
70:12 @ 6:33 avg - 7:12, 6:37, 6:30,
6:30, 6:30, 6:40, 6:30, 6:33, 6:19, 6:23, 4:28
5mi @ SC social run later tonight, got there late so ran solo, cut it short
at the end to just get 5 miles instead of the usual 5.2, lunch was catching
me...good run overall though, just chilled on this, some sections of the
sidewalk were a bit icy but not too bad...the roads were perfect at least.
- Wed - 0 mi
- Thu - 7.5 mi @ CH social run - 5mi in 30min (out 16min
marking 1.5, 2, and 2.5mi in chalk then back in 14min), run felt very
relaxed and just cruising. No garmin, started run at 6:32pm and
finished at 7:02pm on my watch. Afterwards headed back out to join the
others as they finished the run. East Coast Pizza afterwards!
- Fri - 7.1 mi @ Castlewood before work.
Fun on the trails as most of the snow had cleared from several of the paths,
others were nice and packed down for much better footing at least, the bulk
of the run was a slop fest in the mud which was awesome! Weather was
right around 40 degrees which felt awesome and I tested my shoes in the
creek afterwards - bone dry. SWEET!
56:42 @ 8:00 avg - 9:09, 7:05, 8:04,
7:36, 8:30, 8:02, 7:35, 0:41
- Sat - 5 mi @ FE social run. Easy run w/ Luke then
to Bread Co. afterwards before heading to work for a long day. Great
run! Broke in some new shoes on this one - not too bad. Didn't
bother with the watch on this run, used as recovery run.
- Sun - 8.02 mi @ Cuiver River Park trails
before work. Pouring rain and multiple creek crossings that had 3 of
them knee deep in water, while 2 others were waist high! The remaining
creek crossings were just ankle deep. Ran with Justin on the 5 mile
loop, then took a cut through to rejoin an early portion and run it again to
get 8 miles total. Shoes worked like a charm as my feet were bone dry
till I had to submerge half my body in the water, then some trickled in -
but nothing terrible. Despite the fact that it took me just over an
hour driving to get there, it was fun - if only it were closer...
- Weekly Total = 48.17 miles
February 22nd: February 28th:
- Mon - 5.2 mi @ apt. McKenzie loop reverse before
work. Overall felt good, although pretty windy on the finish back up
the River Des Peres path.
34:29 @ 6:37 avg - 7:05, 6:56, 6:34,
6:26, 6:25, 1:03
- Tue - 12.4 mi | 7.2mi @ Creve Coeur Lake afternoon "Fig
8" loop easy. Felt pretty good, tried out some new gear which worked
well, even tried the ear buds that come with the iPod for the first time
running - yeah those suck big time! Thankfully I had on a beanie that
held them in, otherwise I would have been more frustrated during the run.
VERY windy the final 1.5-2 miles of run
47:47 @ 6:38 avg - 7:08, 6:52, 6:34,
6:39, 6:28, 6:29, 6:27, 1:10
5.2mi @ SC
social run evening - developed a mighty fine blister on the lateral left
heel - owie. Good run though overall and then to Tequila's afterwards
for food and drink. No garmin on this one, just start and stop on the
regular watch as I ran with Dave on this one.
35:38 @ 6:51 avg
- Wed - 0 mi
- Thu - 7.75 mi @ CH social run. Ran the 5 miles w/
Dave timing it with just the normal watch, and then headed back out to
rejoin the rest in brining it in to get the full mileage today.
Weather was awesome as ran in shorts! Later over to food and
drinks...can tell my mileage is getting back up as this is the 2nd week now
that I've ordered a full pizza for myself again and ate it all no problem.
Yum yum
33:44 @ 6:44 avg for the 5 mile
portion w/ Dave
- Fri - 6.6 mi @ Castlewood before work.
Wanted to scope out some of the trail conditions before tomorrow's race -
not pretty. Due to all the snow and rain the previous weekend it was
pretty sloppy to start the week. Add to that all the mountain bikers
there and other people running/walking the trails and then mix in the fact
that this week dropped in temperatures so the ground froze...culminating in
some pretty poor footing! Most spots it seriously look like a horse
just tore up the trail...I am surprised I didn't roll an ankle 1,000 times
over today. HOPEFULLY...since it was sunny all day and the temps rose
to the upper 30s/low 40s....that the trails were able to thaw out some for
tomorrow. Either way it should be interesting to see how the race pans
out with the footing. Today felt good and relaxed.
49:34 @ 7:31 avg - 8:23, 7:32, 7:35,
7:31, 7:06, 7:06, 4:21
- Sat - 14 mi @ Castlewood Cup 15K Trail Race
- Sun - 5.12 mi Francis Park loop from apt after work
shakeout run
- Weekly Total = 51.07 miles
