May 4th - "Elite 2 mile" race, sponsored by Big River Running

    9:48 @ 4:54 pace, 8th overall of 8

    Great weather!  Ben Rosario and his new running store, Big River Running, put on this event which took place at the end of the high school Metro Catholic Conference track meet at SLU's high school.  9 of us toed the line, with one being a rabbit for the first 3 laps.  Rosario and Brian Lyons both broke 9 min running 8:56 and 8:58 respectively.  The rest of the field included Adam MacDowell, Matt Helbig, Mike Nelson, Alan Heineker, Mike Aiken and myself, finishing in that order as well.  Joe Porter was the rabbit.  We took it out at 64 sec for the leaders, and last came through at 66 for the first lap.  Alan, Aiken and myself packed up for most of the first mile at the rear, splitting 2:19 at the half and 4:46 at the mile.  Rosario came through the mile at 4:29.  At the 2K split Aiken and I split 6:00 and then Aiken pulled away from me towards the end as he split 9:45 and I around 9:48 or so.  Alan was 9:40, Nelson 9:34, Helbig 9:31 and MacDowell 9:29.  It was awesome to see all those who stayed to watch and cheer us all on and the announcer did a great job.  Afterwards we headed to Porter's place for some drinks and food, good times.
