March 25th - Sedalia Half Marathon

Fairly nice weather today, cool and sunny.  Course was out and back on country roads - rolling hills, not very flat most of the time.  The steeper hills came out in the middle of the course.  Started off too quick from what I wanted (5:45-5:50 was goal) so got back on pace after that till just over half way through the race.  Coming back was windy, and struggled with the last 4 miles.  The leader was roughly 1-2 min up on me for the first few miles before he pulled away and I faded...I was on my own as much as he was....3rd place was no where near me.  Got chased by 2 dogs around 5 miles.  My dad came with me and drove the course stopping to take photos along the way.  Finished 2nd overall in a slow time - I was on pace for a 1:14:00 halfway through the race which was perfect, figuring I would pick up the pace the last bit.  My goal was to break 1:13 and get a better qualifying time for Hospital Hill in June...  Ran cool down with the guy who won, as we went back out on the course and then jumped onto the Katy Trail for some running.  Body not as sore though afterwards like my first half I did in Sept last year so that was good.  Ran this with my new Garmin too which worked well.
